Yes, this is an important fix, and I'll be pushing
it up to-akpm tonight along with a bucket-full of
other important fixes. The push to Linus yesterday
was to clear the pipeline for this next batch, which
should hopefully also make 2.6.12.

It seems to not be in ACPI bk yet. What bug number is that actually
attached to? There seems to be no way to go backwards from the URL.

OK. Try this one for size. It differs from what's currently in
the tree in these ways:

    - It's a quirk, so we don't have to clutter acpi_pci_irq_enable()
      and pirq_enable_irq() with Via-specific code.

    - It doesn't do anything unless we're in PIC mode. The comment
      suggests this issue only affects PIC routing.

    - We do this for ALL Via devices. The current code in the tree
      does it for all devices in the system IF there is a Via device
      with devfn==0, which misses Grzegorz's case.

Does anybody have a pointer to a spec that talks about this? It'd
be awfully nice to have a reference.

Grzegorz, can you check to make sure this still works after all the
tweaking?

We don't know how to program text mode on most cards.

I am using "vga=normal", the X-Server restores the backlight for me.
(it also works well with vbetool restore IIRC, but i did not test the
last few weeks).

This is the upcoming SUSE 9.3 configuration. Works for me since at least
8 Weeks (always tracking the latest kernel and using pretty latest X.org)

I wonder if it is possible to restore original text mode when
